Installing Stenograph Writer Drivers on Windows 10

Note: If you are currently using Case CATalyst version 15 or above you can install the drivers in Case CATalyst. Click here for the instructions.

  1. Connect the writer to your computer with the USB cable and turn the writer on.
  2. Right click on Start , and then left click on Device Manager.
  3. In Device Manager look for a category that says Other Devices. Below that you should see a yellow exclamation point that says Luminex Machine, Diamante Machine, Stenograph Elan Mira, or Stenograph Fusion. Right click on the yellow exclamation point and left click on Update Driver.
  4. The Update Driver Software dialog window will appear. Left-click Browse my computer for driver software.
  5. In the next screen type C:Cat4DriversWriter (or copy and paste this text) in the Search for driver software in this location field. Then click Next.
  6. You will be prompted with a dialog window verifying the installation of the drivers. Click Install.
  7. When the writer's USB driver has finished installing, click Close.
  8. To confirm a successful installation has completed, a new category will appear that say Stenograph USB Writer without a yellow exclamation point next to it.
  9. After installing the writer USB driver, you may get another driver installation wizard to install the Stenograph Writer Serial Port. Follow steps 4-7 to install the drivers.

Making sure the Samson drivers are installed and up to date

After running the Installation program, with the mic plugged in, check in Device Manager to see if the drivers have been loaded. This can be reached by right-clicking My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager button.

If the Samson drivers are loaded, the device under Sound, video and game controllers will be Samson Audio (WDM), and the device under Universal Serial Bus controllers will be Samson C01U. (Samson C01U may be changed to a more generic name for all our similar microphones.)

If the drivers aren't loaded, the system drivers are used. The Samson microphone then shows up under Sound, video and game controllers as USB Audio Device and under Universal Serial Bus controllersas USB Composite Device.

Right-click on the devices and select Properties Download winchiphead multifunction devices driver printer. to see the driver information. Under the Driver tab it will show the driver currently in use. The following box shows the system driver:

To update it, click Update Driver.

Choose 'Install from a list or specific location'.

Choose 'Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.'

Press the Have Disk… button.

Press the Browse… button. Navigate to 'C:Program FilesSamsonSamson C01U' and select the .inf file.

Press the Open button. Choose the Samson driver from the list and press Next.

As it's installing, you will see several prompts that say the driver has not passed Windows Logo testing. Press Continue Anyway.

When the installation is complete, press Finish.

Wheelmouse driver download. Now do the same procedure for the other device if it doesn't do it automatically. (You should do this for both USB Audio Device and USB Composite Device.)

After you're done, their names should change under Device Manager. The device under Sound, video and game controllers will become Samson Audio (WDM), and the device under Universal Serial Bus controllers will become Samson C01U. (Samson C01U may be changed to a more generic name for all our similar microphones.)

The Driver listed under the Driver tab should be different for each, too. Make sure the latest version is shown in the Driver tab for both devices (here it is 1.0.15.0).

If the driver is not the correct version, you should be able to find the latest version by pressing the Update Driver… button.
